King’s Society tour to the Languedoc

Members of The King’s Society spent a very enjoyable weekend in the Languedoc region of France with guide Dr Andrew Thomson, staying just outside the medieval port of Sète where the Canal du Midi meets the Mediterranean. The weekend included visits to Le Puget in the Hérault valley for coffee and a stroll around the vineyards and St Guilhem le Désert, which is a pretty village tucked into a valley in the mountains of the Massif Central. The group visited Aigues Mortes, which is a beautiful 13th Century walled town on the edge of the Camargue. The forecasted rain held off on Sunday enabling the group to walk around the ramparts of the town. On Monday the group visited Domaine de Sainte Rose, a vineyard run by King’s parents Ruth and Charles Simpson, for wine tasting and a tour before driving to Montpellier for a guided walking tour around the medieval heart of the city with Dr Thomson. The members are pictured at Domaine de Sainte Rose.
