Sports Available

Although the success of our teams is important, the real success of the games programme will be indicated by the enthusiasm with which all those taking part do so. We therefore wish to retain a degree of choice, which has traditionally been a feature of the games programme at King's. This ensures a greater degree of motivation, and contributes more positively to the aim of ensuring that each pupil can find a sport that he or she enjoys (and which hopefully they will continue with after leaving school).

However, given the number of pupils in each year, a completely free choice from a large number of sports would not allow for the best chance of success in our school teams, and so a compromise has to be reached. In general, therefore, the degree of choice available is restricted to some degree in the early years, but increases as a pupil progresses through the school and into the Sixth Form. Within this system, we strive to achieve the flexibility that leaves scope for the individual to be able to find a programme that suits him or her.

All pupils must participate in games at least three times per week, not including Saturday matches. Most pupils have to choose the same sport throughout the week, and having chosen their sport, pupils are expected to continue throughout the term. For senior girls and a few senior boys, usually those not in teams, sports can be combined.
