Careers

Arthur’s StoneThe Careers Centre in the old music school, next to Walpole House, is run by a highly experienced careers staff and offers advice throughout a pupil's school career. The Centre provides access to a comprehensive range of on-line careers and higher education guides (and much more).

Pupils are encouraged to think about careers opportunities in their first two years. In the Fifth Form, all will have the opportunity to take the Morrisby careers profile. During the Fifth Form year, pupils also have timetabled careers periods, designed to help them with their choices in the Sixth Form and to make them more aware of the broader issues in higher education and the world of work. In the Sixth Form, particular help is given with all aspects of university entrance, and the Centre is open when A level results are published to assist those who need to find a place.

Many pupils take a 'gap year', and advice on this is available. Recent worthwhile and enterprising examples include: working in an orphanage in Mexico; teaching English to medical staff in a hospital in China; conservation work in Belize; teaching in India.

Careers advice draws on the experience of former pupils (OKS), and through the OKS Careers Advisory Service we offer assistance beyond School.
