Careers
The University and Careers Centre, next to Walpole House, is run by a highly experienced careers staff and offers advice throughout a pupil's school career. The Centre provides access to a comprehensive range of on-line and 'hard copy' careers and higher education guides (and much more).
Pupils are encouraged to think about careers opportunities in their first two years. In the Fifth Form, all take the Cambridge psychometric careers profile and results are discussed with Housemasters and Housemistresses, with the University and Careers Advisor, as well as with Tutors and Parents. Fifth Form pupils also have timetabled careers periods, designed to help them with their choices in the Sixth Form and to make them more aware of the broader issues in higher education and the world of work.
In the Sixth Form, 6b have the opportunity to take the Centigrade questionnaire to help with degree subject ideas. 6b pupils also discuss university life with young former pupils (OKS) still at University, attend a Gap Year fair and a Careers Day run in conjunction with successful OKS who represent a wide choice of professional careers. 6a are given particular help with all aspects of university entrance, here and abroad. The University and Careers Centre is open when A level results are published in August to assist pupils if and when needed.
Careers advice draws on the experience of OKS, and through the OKS Careers Advisory Service we offer assistance beyond School.
