Coming out of the Lattergate archway (or through the Lattergate Garden from the Shirley Hall), you find yourself in the Green Court. This is the centre of the Main School, with dramatic views of the Cathedral (particularly when floodlit at night), and surrounded by beautiful old buildings of flint and stone. There have been lime trees around the Green Court since at least 1708.
In 1812, the Dean pronounced: "The Dean and Chapter, though possessed of the sole exclusive right of the Green Court for the purpose of exercising their horses, etc., allow nevertheless the scholars of the King's School the free liberty of playing", so long as they "are not injurious to the persons and premises of the inhabitants there".
Moving clockwise from the Cathedral side of the Green Court we come to: Canterbury Cathedral; Lardergate (classrooms and offices); Lattergate (the Headmaster's Office); the Memorial Court; the Undercroft (Dining Hall and classrooms); Jervis House; Hodgson's Hall (the Bursar's Office); the Priory Block (classrooms); the Forrens; Marlowe House; the Deanery; and the Dark Entry, which leads to the Cathedral, the Brick Walk (Linacre/Luxmoore/Meister Omers Triangle), and St Augustine's.
