Both the Under 18 and the Under 14 hockey teams have just become Kent County Champions. The Under 16s also did well, reaching the semi-finals of their competition before losing to the eventual winners.
The Under 18 side won the competition for the third successive year. The team played very good hockey throughout the tournament. They did not concede a single goal all day and only had to defend one short corner.
Having come through the group stages, they beat Kent College Pembury 3-0 in the quarter-finals and in the semi-finals beat Ashford School 2-0. The final was a tough match against a strong Sevenoaks team with an England U18 player, but a well finished goal by Dominique Masters sealed the 1-0 victory.
The team is now preparing for the regional tournament that takes place on the 19th November at Holcombe Hockey Club.
Team: Lucy Balicki, Francesca Berry, Gabrielle Bradburn, Alice Brady, Stephanie Crampton, Madeleine Cryer, Alice Davis (Capt.), Eve de Haan, Matilda Emlyn-Williams, Hope Kilmurry, Lucy Kingsman, Sophie Knight, Dominique Masters, Jessica Stanion, Cleodie Swire.
The Under 14s won their group with victories against Colfe's, Newstead, Blackheath and Sir Roger Manwood’s, scoring 15 goals and conceding none. They then faced Sutton Valence in the quarter-final. They played some good passing hockey with excellent finishing, to win the match 3-0.
The toughest match was against Sevenoaks in the semi-final, between two evenly matched sides. King’s scored first but Sevenoaks came back with 2 goals. King's equalised in the last few minutes: 2-2. The match was decided by penalty flicks. King’s scored all 5 with Sevenoaks missing one, so King’s went through.
The final was against Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar. We just managed to calm down after the semi-final and won the game 2-0. It was a superb effort, the girls played better and better hockey as the day went on, and were delighted by the win. The team will represent Kent in the regional tournament in November.
