Dr Kian Tajbakhsh was a boy in Meister Omers from 1975 to 1979. On May 11 he was arrested in Tehran and is being held in the Evin prison. He is apparently accused of 'endangering national security through propaganda against the system and espionage for foreigners'. Kian holds dual Iranian and American citizenship and has been working in Iran in recent years.

From King's Kian went to Imperial College, London, where he read Civil Engineering, and then to Columbia University. He was Assistant Professor teaching Urban Policy and Politics at the New School for Social Research in New York City from 1994 to 2001, and is now a Senior Research Fellow, Adjunct there. He has published many articles and two books: The Promise of the City (2001) and Social Capital: Trust, Development and Democracy (2005: in Persian).

For details on Kian and how to support the campaign for his release, see the Free Kian website.
