Candidates should be 13 years old on 1^st September of the year of entry to King’s. If your child falls slightly outside this bracket, please contact us as we may be able to accommodate them, depending on the circumstances.

Parents of pupils joining at 13+ are welcome to express a preference of House but the School reserves the right to allocate pupils according to availability and in order to have balanced year groups.

Historical or sibling connections are taken into consideration. There is no preference of Boarding House for pupils joining at 14+ and 16+.

Saturday morning lessons are an important part of life at King’s. Many will also take part in sports fixtures each Saturday afternoon and there are a lot of other events and activities taking place over every weekend. What is the ISEB Pre-Test?

The ISEB Pre Test is designed to identify your child’s academic attainment and potential. There are four tests:

• English
• Maths
• Verbal Reasoning
• Non-Verbal Reasoning

The tests are online, multiple choice, and ‘adaptive’ – which means the level of difficulty is adapted to your child’s age.

The tests are usually sat at your child’s school. Overseas candidates can take the test at a British Council, or other approved testing centre. The tests should be sat in the Autumn term of your child’s Year 6.

Can my child sit the ISEB Pre Test any later than Year 6?

If a place is still available, a reference will be requested from your child’s prep school after a registration has been made. The ISEB Pre Test can then be sat in Year 7.

The King’s Experience Day is a day for Year 6 pupils who have applied to join King’s. Applicants will come to the school for a day, to take part in some activities and interviews which will allow us to get to know your child and for your child to get to know King’s.

Parents will be asked to pay a £2,000 acceptance deposit to confirm their child’s place at King’s. The deposit is only refundable on academic grounds. Parents based overseas will be asked to pay an Additional Deposit of two terms’ fees.  The Additional Deposit will be retained in the general funds of the School until your child leaves and will be repaid by means of a credit without interest to the final payment of Fees or other sums due to the School on leaving, unless stated otherwise in the terms and conditions.

For pupils joining King’s in Year 10, Houses are allocated depending on availability. Historical or sibling connections are taken into consideration.

If your child has sat the assessments in January, offers will be made in early February.

What are the King’s Entrance Exams (K.E.E)?

The King’s Entrance Exams (K.E.E) are assessments sat in the January of Year 9 which allow entry in Year 10. Candidates based in the UK can come to sit the assessments at King’s. Overseas candidates can take the test at a British Council, or other approved testing centre. The total length of the exam is just over three hours. A little more time can be allowed for short breaks between each section. The exams consist of online assessments and English and Mathematics papers. The components are as follows:

• Part 1 (Spatial) 30 minutes
• Part 2 (Verbal) 40 minutes
• Part 3 (Numerical) 40 minutes
• Part 4 (Mathematics written paper) 40 minutes (calculators are allowed)
• Part 5 (an English written paper consisting of a comprehension exercise and a creative writing task) 40 minutes

Candidates who sit the exams at King’s will be interviewed in person on the day. Successful overseas candidates will be invited for interview via Teams/Zoom.

Can my child prepare for the King’s Entrance Exams?
No preparation or specific study are required for the sitting of the 14+/Yr 10 assessments.

Is there a fee to sit the King’s Entrance Examinations?
King’s does not charge a fee for the exams but British Council offices will charge a fee for their time and facilities (please check locally).

What am I allowed and to bring into the exam room?
Pens, Noise cancelling headphones, Scrap paper, Water, Tissues, You will need your Passport.

What am I NOT allowed to bring into the exam room?
Dictionary, Bags, Mobile Phones/ Smart Watches.

Does King’s arrange the appointment with the British Council?
No. Parents will need to approach their local British Council office and arrange an appointment.

When will I receive instructions and information on my child’s exams?
After you have registered, you will receive an email with a link to an online exam form in the November before the exams.

Will King’s provide feedback to candidates after the exams?
No, King’s does not provide individual details of results
