An unquenchable thirst for understanding

The HMC Conference in Belfast centred on a theme dear to King’s hearts: creativity and personal growth to accompany learning. That the two main speakers, Jonathan Powell (who described the difficult pathway towards the Good Friday agreement in Northern Ireland) and John Lloyd (who invented the QI television series and was talking about its offshoot-QI boot camps for adults!), are both OKS emphasised to me that this was all home territory.

I do believe that we are very fortunate to have a pupil body who are naturally curious about the wider sense of knowledge and wisdom! The classes at King’s do have sustained and directed educational purposes, but there is always the inspiration of making connections across the subjects and also the wish to follow up on a particular idea or interesting quotation that emerges from the classrooms around the ancient Courts and Quads. The Renaissance spirit and the unquenchable thirst for further understanding would be the way I would express what our teaching and learning are about.
