Year 7 is an exciting time full of new opportunities, new friendships and new challenges. At Junior King’s, pupils join a nurturing top of school environment where they can lead, explore and grow before moving on to The King’s School Canterbury in Year 9.

A Seamless Journey to The King’s School Canterbury – Junior King’s is the beginning of a remarkable educational pathway. Many pupils benefit from a through offer to King’s, giving families confidence and clarity from the moment they join us. Our close partnership with King’s ensures a smooth and seamless transition for every child.
The Advantage of Being at the Top of a Prep School – In Years 7 and 8, pupils become leaders, not new starters. With greater responsibility and visibility, they develop independence, resilience and character at a vital stage of growth.
A Co-Curricular Life Full of Opportunity – From orchestras, choirs and drama to sport, outdoor pursuits and clubs, our vibrant co-curricular programme helps pupils discover passions, develop teamwork and build lifelong interests.

The Admissions Journey
Junior King’s offers several entry points for pupils. For those leaving their schools at the end of Year 6, we can provide a through place to The King’s School Canterbury, subject to a strong performance in the assessment process and a positive reference from their current school. This pathway includes Years 7 and 8 at Junior King’s, followed by a seamless transition to the Senior School in Year 9.
For Year 7 entry, Junior King’s offers two Academic Scholarships and two Academic Exhibitions to outstanding internal and external candidates who demonstrate academic excellence and significant future potential. For further information, please visit our Scholarships page to explore the opportunities available.
Applications for Year 7 entry close on 14 March 2026. Early application is, therefore, strongly advised.
Our Admissions team is very much here to help you with any questions you may have.
Flexibility for Family Life
We offer day, occasional, flexi and full boarding, giving families genuine choice and flexibility. Pupils can board regularly, stay just on the days that help busiest family schedules, or attend as day pupils. Whatever option they choose, every child becomes part of our warm and supportive community, enjoying a reassuring home from home where they feel settled, known and cared for.
Hear from one of our current parents
A parent whose daughter joined Junior King’s in Year 7 reflects on their first year, sharing early impressions, key highlights, and how the school supported her transition and growth, offering a fresh perspective on joining our community from Year 7.
Transport options
Getting to and from school is simple and secure thanks to the dedicated transport options available to our pupils. We offer an accompanied train service between Wye and Sturry, led by our Assistant Tutors who ensure pupils travel safely each day. This service operates Monday to Friday with stops at Wye, Chilham, Chartham and Canterbury West, and includes a return journey at the end of the school day.
In addition, King’s runs a fleet of branded minibuses serving local areas across Kent, including Faversham, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Margate, Whitfield, Bridge, Deal, Ash and Wingham. All minibus drivers are King’s employees with advanced DBS checks, giving families peace of mind that pupils are in safe and reliable hands throughout their journey.
“They’ve got it all here, and we can’t think of many more inspiring places to learn.”
Talk Education
While the majority of our Year 8 pupils move on to the Senior School, some do move on to local grammar schools and other independent schools around the country.
We work closely with parents, giving personal and professional advice, and, by understanding each pupil’s needs, we ensure that the chosen secondary school is the most appropriate setting for their future success.
School Transport Service
To ease congestion, support the environment, and assist parents, Junior King’s offers a range of transport services.
