The King’s School is deeply saddened by the passing of Robert Willis, the former Dean of Canterbury and Chairman of the School’s Board of Governors (2001-22). Our thoughts and prayers are with Fletcher and their family and friends.

Dean Robert was not only King’s Chair of Governors during his time in Canterbury but also a friend and neighbour whose kindness and good will went way beyond his official duties. From the very beginning he entered into the spirit of things, regularly attending School events. He particularly enjoyed the School concerts and drama productions and was always a welcoming host in the Deanery Garden. An engaging and witty speaker, his compassion and humour shone through in all his sermons and speeches and he was a regular fixture at the School Speech Days. He was a much-loved member of the King’s community, as well as the wider world, having touched the lives of many during the pandemic with his Morning Prayer videos.

Dean Robert will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

Dean Robert’s funeral will take place in New Haven, Connecticut. The service will be at 3pm local UK time on Wednesday 13th November.  It will be possible to watch the livestream using this link Requiem Mass — Christ Church from the website of the American parish church hosting the funeral – see www.christchurchnh.org
