Florence King (née Walker, BR 2002-07) has become the Lady Mayoress of the City of London. Her husband, Alastair King, formally became the 696th Lord Mayor of the City of London during the Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday 9 November 2024.

The Lord Mayor of the City of London is an international ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector. The Lord Mayor also makes sure that the City’s interests are reflected in local and national policy.

As Lady Mayoress, Florence will be supporting Alastair in his role and sits on the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Fundraising Board. During his Lord Mayorship, Alastair King will be championing the theme of ‘Growth Unleashed’ – a scheme to strengthen financial and technological growth and investment within the UK.

Florence is a journalist, researcher, and Ambassador for the British Liver Trust, best known for her work within the British GQ magazine and research into Public Health.

History of OKS and the City of London

Florence is not the first OKS to join the City of London Lord Mayor’s Office. Most recently, Sir Nicholas Lyons (LN/BR 1972-77) and Felicity Lyons (SH 1975-77) held the Lord and Lady Mayoress title in 2022-23. John Sawbridge (King’s: Left 1748) also held office in 1775-76
