Ice creams, swimming, sunscreen, hats and water bottles defined the week at Junior King’s. High temperatures created conditions more typical of Spain or Australia than the United Kingdom, and staff adapted programmes, itineraries and performances to manage the heat effectively. Pupils approached each change with resilience as temperatures continued to rise.
Year 6 pupils returned from a highly successful trip to France. They practised their French language skills, visited historic battlefields, explored local markets and museums, and enjoyed the occasional glace. Educational visits such as this play a vital role in the Junior King’s curriculum, offering valuable cultural and experiential learning beyond the classroom.
Year 8 pupils arrived back on Wednesday evening after a memorable Bushcraft trip. They showed determination while facing challenging outdoor conditions and shared many enthusiastic stories on their return. Many expressed one shared priority: a quick return home or to the boarding house for a well-earned shower. Their return marks the start of a series of important events to conclude their Prep School journey, including the Year 8 production, Leavers’ Dinner and Speech Day.
Pupils who remained on site also experienced a busy and engaging week. On Thursday, Year 3 transformed the school into Ancient Greece during their Greek Day celebration. Zeus, Poseidon, Aphrodite and Athena appeared in abundance as pupils embraced their learning through creative participation. Year 4 pupils recreated a Viking settlement across the school. They explored Viking traditions, legends, exploration and seafaring raids across Europe. Fortunately, the day remained peaceful, with no longboats or raiders in sight.
Pre-Prep pupils impressed audiences during their end-of-year reviews, taking everyone on a journey around the world. They demonstrated confidence in public speaking while developing teamwork and problem-solving skills that will support their future learning.
Sports Day, held last Saturday, delivered a vibrant and successful event. Every pupil showcased enthusiasm and determination throughout the competitions. Cockas secured victory this year, earning well-deserved congratulations.
The school community now looks ahead to another significant weekend. Year 8 leavers will enjoy their Leavers’ Dinner on Saturday evening, followed by the Boarders’ BBQ on Sunday. This popular event offers families a valuable opportunity to connect, build relationships and celebrate a successful year in boarding.
