On Friday, 8 November 2024, members of the King’s Association came together for the first-ever King’s Association Quiz Night. It was a roaring success, full of laughter, friendly rivalry, and plenty of brainpower. Held at Birley’s Pavilion, the event attracted over 70 participants, all eager to test their knowledge, win raffle prizes, and secure a top spot on the leaderboard.

Our expert quizmaster was Jeanne Hamman, a Sports Graduate at King’s, who is involved in a range of school activities, including debating and supporting pupils in Broughton House.

The award for Best Table Name went to “University Challenged,” a strong team comprising former Housemasters and King’s staff. Other great contenders included “Beyond Incompetence” and “Let’s Get Quizzical.”

The quiz consisted of six rounds covering topics such as geography, science, nature, pop culture, and current affairs.

At the quiz halfway point, participants tried their luck in the King’s Raffle in aid of the King’s School transformational bursaries campaign, the Charter Awards. Prizes included premium gin and vodka, wine tasting, gift bundles, and coffee and bakery vouchers. We are delighted to have raised a fantastic £550 for the Charter Awards on the night. A big thank you to our quizzers for supporting this cause.

The final round focused on King’s and Canterbury, proving to be a strong round for all, with two tables achieving top marks. Peter Henderson, the School Archivist, helped the staff table gain extra points with his historical knowledge and footnoted answers.

After much anticipation, it was time to count and announce the scores. Our Quiz champions were Wellesley King’s (Table 8).

Congratulations to all participants who performed admirably, and special thanks to Jeanne for hosting brilliantly. It was wonderful to bring members of the King’s Association together, creating a real sense of fun and community. We look forward to hosting a second King’s Association Quiz Night next year.
