The King’s School Running Wild Activity has completed two weeks of volunteering at St Stephen’s Church, Canterbury.

Pupils were allocated an area to adopt the forgotten graves, the aim was to maintain the peace and tranquil setting of the churchyard but to introduce some colour and make it a quiet area for the parish to reflect in.

Pupils and staff cleared away weeds, stripped back the grass and cleared away the moss from the headstones so the names were once again visible. They then introduced perennial plants to the soil beds and covered some of the tired concrete graves with plum slate chippings to act as a topper.

Tom said, “I feel as a group we have been able to uncover the history and breathe life into an area that needed a refresh”.
