The school’s biology trip to South Africa has been an exciting and educational journey already, filled with incredible experiences. Here are some highlights from the adventure so far:
Upon arrival, students were greeted with a beautiful sunny day, perfect for a trip to Table Mountain. The stunning views set the tone for the rest of the journey.
The following day included a workshop with Wendy Hitchcock, who introduced the group to Fynbos, one of the six plant kingdoms of the world. This was followed by a field excursion to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, where various species of Fynbos were encountered. It was a fantastic day of experiential learning.
The itinerary included visits to the South African Museum and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Two Oceans Aquarium. Here, students learned about the vital turtle rehabilitation work being conducted by the Aquarium Foundation.
A visit to Cape RADD allowed the group to snorkel with Shy sharks and assist in data collection. Despite poor weather affecting visibility, the time in the ocean with guides Dani and Mark was enjoyed. Later that afternoon, a talk from Dylan provided fascinating insights into their research and the technology used for data capture.
