The Grand Final of the Shell Global Perspectives Presentation Competition took place on Wednesday 7 May in the Malthouse Theatre, where fifteen pupils from across the Shell year group delivered their final presentations.
Earlier this year, all Shells were asked to research and present on a global issue linked to a chosen country. The topics explored inequality, politics, social change and living standards, with each pupil focusing on either Australia, Chile, the Philippines or South Africa. One pupil from each house was then selected to go through to the final.
Each finalist gave a three-minute presentation on their chosen subject. The standard was extremely high, with pupils demonstrating clear thinking, careful research and strong delivery across a wide range of topics.
Mr Matt Henderson, Head of Shell, introduced the evening and has led the programme throughout. Judges Mr Alex Patton and Mr Matthew Key praised the overall quality and depth of the work presented.
This year’s results were:
First place: May from Marlowe — “How much does your healthy breakfast really cost?”
Second place: Joyce from Jervis — “Why is the education system poor in the Philippines, and how is it related to poverty?”
Third place: Saskia from Mitchinson’s — “How colonisation is still affecting Australian life”
All fifteen finalists are to be congratulated for their hard work and thoughtful presentations. The Global Perspectives programme continues to play a valuable role in helping Shells develop their research, communication and critical thinking skills.
