It was wonderful to have pupils and parents out in the perfect weather for our annual Sports Day. This was the first time in three years families had been able to attend this event and the support was incredible. The atmosphere was fantastic, and whilst all the races were fiercely contested, the sense of fun and support for all was a strong theme of the day.
One of the highlights of the morning came when Auberon D broke the school record for the 800 metres, knocking eleven-hundredths of a second off the previous record, with a hugely impressive time of 2:23.75 sec.
The afternoon continued with the exhilaration of the relays and the final event of the day saw the return of the much-loved tug of war – the ultimate in strength, power, endurance and teamwork.
When all of the points for the track events were counted up and added to the scores from the field events (which had been held during games sessions in the week), the final results were as follows:
1st – Cockas 602 pts
2nd – Keas 559 pts
3rd – Kakas 528 pts
4th – Macaws 495 pts
A great time was had by all, and it was marvellous to see everybody giving their best and once again enjoying the thrill and excitement of a full-on Junior King’s Sports Day.
Well done to all of the pupils and thank you to the staff for all their help and support in enabling the event to run so smoothly.
A Jamieson
