Today, King’s was delighted to welcome Rosie Duffield MP to the School for an engaging Q&A session with Sixth Form Politics pupils in the Science Auditorium. The event offered a unique opportunity for pupils to gain first-hand insights into the workings of UK politics from a serving Member of Parliament.
During the session, pupils explored a wide range of topics, beginning with Rosie Duffield’s journey into politics and her personal inspirations. The discussion also covered the interactions between MPs and local government, giving pupils a deeper understanding of how national and local decision-making intersect.
A key focus of the conversation was the extent of change to her role since becoming an Independent MP. Rosie candidly shared her experiences navigating this new position, reflecting on how it has influenced her responsibilities and approach to representing her constituents in Canterbury.
Pupils also engaged with current political issues, discussing subjects such as this week’s budget, the voting age, and wider parliamentary matters. The session was marked by lively debate, insightful questions, and a genuine exchange of ideas, leaving pupils inspired and better informed about political processes.
The visit provided pupils with a rare insight into political life and inspired thoughtful discussion about the challenges and responsibilities of representing a community at the national level.
