World Book Day filled Junior King’s with colour and excitement on Thursday as pupils and staff arrived in creative costumes inspired by favourite book characters. Junior House pupils worked with “Sherlock Holmes” to solve playful “crimes” committed by “Paddington Bear” and “The Cat in the Hat.” The Pre‑Prep parade brought even more energy, and the warm spring sunshine lifted the mood across the school. We also welcomed illustrator Garry Parsons, who led lively workshops that encouraged pupils to explore drawing and storytelling.

This week also brought impressive scholarship success. Our Year 8 pupils achieved excellent results in the King’s School 13+ Scholarships across Academics, Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Design & Technology and Sport. In total, 30% of the year group received Scholarships or Exhibitions, and a further 22% gained places on the Excellence and Pathway Programmes. Their commitment, skill and enthusiasm were clear in every assessment and interview.

Rehearsals for the Middle School production of Frozen Jr. are reaching the final stages. The special effects have arrived, and the set is almost complete. Tickets are extremely limited now, so families should secure their seats soon.

It has also been a strong week of sporting achievement. Our U11A Netball team won the Wellesley House Haddon Dene Netball Tournament, and the U13A Girls’ Hockey team won their playoff game, earning the chance to represent Kent next week at Epsom College. We hosted the Gary Lee Netball Tournament at Birley’s, and our U13A Boys’ Hockey team finished as Plate runners‑up at the IAPS Hockey Tournament before delivering a confident performance against St Lawrence. The U13 Cross Country teams also impressed at Northbourne Park, with the girls finishing fifth and the boys securing the Steven’s Cup.

Our boarding community enjoyed a warm and joyful Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday evening. Sharing this special event with them was a pleasure and added a wonderful highlight to the week.

As spring arrives, the school grounds are full of new colour and life. Longer days, milder temperatures and bright daffodils create a cheerful atmosphere and remind us of the season ahead.
