Over the past week, more than 100 pupils lit up the Malthouse stage with excerpts from iconic musicals in Show Time: A Night at the Musicals. The concert-style production blended powerful solos, dynamic ensemble numbers, and an infectious sense of energy and talent. All four performances sold out and ended with standing ovations, a well-earned tribute to the dedication of everyone involved.
Director of Drama, Miss Frances shared, “It was truly inspiring to watch pupils from Year 7 right through to the Sixth Form share the stage, performing side by side with such confidence and joy. The sense of togetherness was unmistakable, a genuine ensemble spirit, and the sheer delight radiating from the stage lit up the entire hall.”
This year also marked a milestone: it was the first King’s School production to feature such a large cohort of Junior King’s pupils. Year 7 and 8 Drama Excellence delivered an electrifying performance of Non-Stop, showcasing two casts brimming with confidence and charisma.
Fiona Banks, Director of Drama at JKS, noted, “It was wonderful to witness JKS pupils taking to the Malthouse stage with such energy, passion and skill, and to see how confidently they took their place in an incredible ensemble of talent from Year 7 to Sixth Form.”
The OJKS pupils shone throughout the evening. Theo’s captivating dance solo and Isabelle’s show-stopping diva moment were particular highlights. Audiences were also treated to fantastic performances from Tom, Delilah, Willow, Flavia, Romilly, Leah Goul, Jessica, and many others.
From the Shells’ joyful renditions of Fat Sam’s Grand Slam and Spotlight, to the older pupils’ slick performances of All That Jazz and Buenos Aires, the show never lost momentum. The evening reached its finale with a spectacular company performance from The Greatest Showman, leaving the audience buzzing long after the final note.
