Hot off the heels of last week’s excellent A level results, pupils at The King’s School are celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE outcomes, once again placing the School among the top academic performers nationally.
Half of all grades awarded this year were at Grade 9 or 8, broadly equivalent to A* standard under the previous system. More than 70% of results were at Grade 9–7 (A*-A under the previous system). The highest possible grade, a Grade 9, was the single most common outcome, with an outstanding 472 awarded across the cohort.
Among the many individual highlights, 21 pupils secured at least seven Grade 9s, while 20 pupils achieved the equivalent of straight Grade 9s and 8s across all their subjects.
Jude Lowson, Head of The King’s School, commented:
“We are delighted to share these results and immensely proud of all that our pupils have achieved. It is particularly pleasing to see such success across a wide range of subjects and disciplines, made all the more impressive by the pupils’ simultaneous commitment to music, sport, drama, service and everything else that enriches life at King’s. They have been superbly supported by their teachers, whose commitment and care make this balance possible. This combination of academic ambition, excellence and breadth is what defines a King’s education, and as they now step into the Sixth Form, our pupils do so with confidence, purpose and a genuine excitement for what lies ahead.”
Deputy Head (Academic), Matthew Key said:
“These results are a reflection not only of our pupils’ academic ability but of their determination, resilience and appetite for challenge. They have worked tirelessly and can be justly proud of their success. Behind every grade is a story of determination and hard work. This is a year group that has approached their studies with real drive, but also with curiosity, creativity and a strong sense of community. Their results are an outstanding achievement, but who they are becoming is even more impressive”
As this accomplished year group enters the Sixth Form, they do so ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities. Their strong GCSE results provide an excellent foundation for the academic depth of A level study, as well as the wider experiences that lie ahead.
At King’s, the Sixth Form is more than a place of academic rigour – it is a vibrant and purposeful community where pupils are encouraged to broaden their horizons, take on leadership roles, and pursue their individual interests. It is here that they will build on their achievements, grow in independence, and prepare with confidence for life beyond school.
