On Friday, 21st June, the 6b Economists were taken on a trip to local Kent businesses to explore how firms operate in competitive environments and the impact of issues like government policy, inflation, and climate change. In the morning, they visited Domaine Evremond, a vineyard and winery, and learnt about viticulture in the UK, vertical integration, and new opportunities in this industry. In the afternoon, they visited Barton Marine, a manufacturer of supplies for the yachting industry, and explored issues such as Brexit, distribution networks, and manufacturing processes. At the same time, they were treated to a stock market trading simulation game at Birley’s with Peter Savill OKS, learning about a career in investment banking and how stock markets function. Thank you to all who hosted us and gave up their time to let us apply the course to fascinating real-world applications!
