Congratulations to Felix (6b, GR) who has recently been selected to join the National Youth Orchestra.
Felix began the application process towards the end of his GCSE exam period last year, submitting a video audition for the first round. Successful candidates were then invited to an in-person final-round assessment, which Felix attended at the start of this term.
Out of approximately 165 applicants from across the country, Felix has earned his place as one of only six bassoon players in the ensemble, which accepts young musicians between the ages of 13 and 18.
The National Youth Orchestra offers three residential tours each year, taking place across the UK after school terms finish. During these tours, Felix will rehearse and perform exciting repertoire in some of the nation’s most prestigious concert halls. Highlights include a BBC Prom at the Royal Albert Hall next summer.
Beyond performing, members also visit local schools to make music with younger pupils, something Felix is particularly looking forward to.
Reflecting on this achievement, Felix shared: “I am immensely excited to be part of such a prestigious ensemble, which I know will push my playing and music-making to a new level.”
Director of Music, Will Bersey, added: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Felix has been selected for the National Youth Orchestra. As an exceptionally gifted bassoonist, this opportunity promises to be an inspiring and unforgettable chapter in his musical journey.”
This is a remarkable accomplishment, and we wish Felix every success as he embarks on this exciting musical journey.
