In December 2024, our Economics pupils embarked on a remarkable journey to New York City, immersing themselves in the vibrant energy of one of the world’s leading financial hubs. The trip was filled with extraordinary experiences, providing an invaluable perspective on global finance, culture, and economics.
The trip began with visits to iconic landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty and the World Trade Center. These sites offered not only breathtaking views but also a deep sense of history and resilience that resonates with the city’s spirit.
A thrilling last-minute addition to the itinerary saw pupils attending an NFL game where the New York Giants faced off against the Baltimore Ravens. The electrifying atmosphere of the game provided a quintessential American cultural experience.
One of the most inspiring moments came with a visit to Morgan Stanley. Pupils toured the trading floor, engaged with young graduates, and gained insights into the dynamic world of global finance at this prestigious institution.
The group then visited the Manhattan Civil Courthouse, where pupils had the rare privilege of meeting a Supreme Court judge. The session offered a glimpse into the workings of the U.S. legal system and its role in shaping economic policies.
Next, the group explored the United Nations building, delving into the complexities of international diplomacy and cooperation. The guided tour provided insights into how global organisations influence economic decisions worldwide.
A visit to the New York Stock Exchange was another standout experience. Standing just metres from the action, pupils witnessed the ringing of the closing bell at 4 pm, an unforgettable moment in the epicentre of global trading.
The day concluded with an exclusive session at Goldman Sachs, where pupils had the rare opportunity to hear from the firm’s Chief Financial Officer. This visit offered a behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s leading investment banks, leaving pupils inspired and informed.
This Economics trip to New York City has been more than just an educational visit; it has been a transformational experience. By blending cultural exploration with insights into global finance and economics, our pupils have gained a unique perspective that will undoubtedly shape their academic and professional futures.
