It has been another busy and successful week for the pupils at Junior King’s. One of the highlights was the performance of our Drama Excellence Group at The King’s School production, A Night at the Musicals. Our pupils received wonderful feedback, including comments such as “brilliant”, “amazing”, and “so confident and assured”. It was also lovely to see so many OJKS pupils performing in the show and doing so well.
The 11+ Academic Scholarship took place on Tuesday for several Year 6 Junior King’s and visiting pupils, providing an opportunity for candidates to demonstrate their problem‑solving abilities, creative thinking skills, and responses to a series of challenging “thunk” questions. The 13+ Art and Academic Scholarship assessments also concluded this week, and we offer our congratulations to everyone involved. We additionally received fantastic news that five of our former pupils have gained places at Oxbridge, a wonderful achievement and a testament to their continued hard work.
The Year 5 Parents’ Evening was a great success, with many parents taking the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers and discuss progress and next steps. On Tuesday morning, it was a pleasure to visit the Junior House, Middle School and Year 7 section assemblies. Each assembly focused on themes relevant to the pupils, including time management, effective use of planners, recognition of achievements, the importance of speaking kindly to others, and knowing when to share concerns. It was fantastic to see the excellent pastoral work taking place across the school.
Wednesday saw a busy programme of sport, with the IAPS Swimming trials taking place at the Sports Centre. Our swimmers performed well and were a credit to the school. We now await the collation of times to see who progresses to the next round. The senior boys began the hockey season positively against Ashford Prep, with the U13A team showing great grit and determination to come back from 0–3 and secure a draw. The B, C and D teams all won their matches, which is very encouraging for the season ahead. The U11 boys represented the school brilliantly at the Regional IAPS tournament on Monday, putting in a strong performance despite it being early in their season. Our netball teams also played extremely well last Saturday, winning their fixtures. It was lovely to see so many parents on the sidelines supporting the teams.
Our boarding community enjoyed a full and varied weekend with a mix of activities, prep, free time and reflection. Mother Lucy gave a fascinating talk about celebrations around the world and the foods associated with them. Pupils shared the dishes that feature in celebrations within their own cultures, offering a wonderful snapshot of the diverse backgrounds within our community. On Thursday morning, our Year 2 parents attended an introductory Junior House coffee morning as part of the preparations for their children’s transition to the Prep School. This is the first of several events designed to ensure a smooth and positive move from Year 2 to Year 3 for families.
