King’s Week 2025 was a joyful and wide-ranging celebration of school life, full of colour, creativity and collaboration. The warm weather didn’t dampen spirits, and it was heartening to see so many pupils giving their all across a packed schedule of events.
There was a mixture of brilliant drama and dance performances and outstanding music throughout the week. Much Ado About Nothing, Wuthering Heights and The Railway Children each brought something unique to the stage and were very well received. The variety in style, tone and staging across these productions showcased the depth of talent and commitment among the casts and crews. Jazz on a Summer Sunset provided a relaxed and upbeat evening, while The Serenade concert made full use of the stunning Cathedral backdrop. The Gala Symphony Concert in Shirley Hall brought everything to a powerful close, with a programme that celebrated the talents of the school’s orchestral musicians. KiDaCo, the school’s dance company, gave three dynamic performances that reflected hours of rehearsal and great creativity, with routines that moved confidently between classical and contemporary styles. These shows were a testament to the dancers’ skill and flair.
Saturday at Birley’s was as energetic as ever, filled with sporting events, including cricket, tennis, touch rugby and fencing, along with show jumping and the ever-popular display of classic cars and bikes. It was a lively and social day that brought together pupils, families and visitors across generations.
Around Green Court, acoustic concerts created a laid-back, summery atmosphere. Pupil-run stalls added to the sense of fun, and King’s Week favourites like Lab on the Lawn and the Classic Bikes remained popular highlights of the week. The whole week had a festival feel, with something happening at every turn.
What stood out above all was the level of pupil involvement. Despite the high temperatures, everyone kept going with good humour and enthusiasm. Whether performing, playing, dancing, running a stall or supporting their peers, pupils threw themselves into the week with real pride. It was a fitting end to the school year, which showcased the incredible talent of our pupils and staff.
