The return of warm sunshine set a positive tone across Junior King’s this week, reinforcing a growing sense of anticipation as the academic year approaches its conclusion. Staff and pupils alike embraced a full and vibrant programme of events, celebrating achievements across all year groups while maintaining strong momentum in both academic and co-curricular life.
The school community welcomed prospective pupils during Tuesday’s New Pupil Welcome Day. Incoming children engaged confidently with current pupils, supported throughout the day by dedicated pupil “buddies.” These relationships helped create a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, allowing new pupils to settle quickly. Many families noted the enthusiasm and smiles visible at collection time. The school now looks forward to welcoming these pupils formally in September.
Music formed a central part of the week’s successes. Middle School pupils delivered an impressive concert on Tuesday afternoon, showcasing confident performances and clear musical progress. Soloists demonstrated exceptional skill and commitment, highlighting the depth of talent within the year group. The evening Summer Concert built further on this momentum, as pupils across the school performed with confidence and energy. Year 8 pupils made a particularly meaningful contribution, reflecting their leadership and sustained involvement in the school’s musical life.
Sporting achievements also stood out. The U13 girls’ cricket team secured a place in the County Semi‑Finals, marking a significant milestone and demonstrating both skill and teamwork. Sports Day activities added further excitement, with Junior House field events taking place earlier in the week. Wednesday’s 1500m final delivered a determined and highly competitive race, widely regarded as one of athletics’ most prestigious events. Pupils showed resilience and commitment throughout, setting a strong example for their peers. Middle and Upper School field events continue to build on this competitive spirit.
Younger pupils also celebrated important milestones. The Nursery Graduation Ceremony provided a joyful and proud occasion, as older Nursery children marked their transition into Reception. Families and staff joined in recognising this significant stage in each child’s development.
Creativity took centre stage with the opening of the Art and DT Exhibition. Pupils from Year 3 through to Scholarship level presented imaginative and technically strong work. The exhibition reflects both the breadth of opportunity available at Junior King’s and the high standard of creative teaching across the school.
Looking ahead, Year 6 and Year 8 pupils will depart for their residential trips next week. These experiences promise adventure, independence and lasting memories, particularly for Year 8 pupils as they prepare to complete their prep school journey.
