KSCBC at our hearts

A growing number of pupils – 75 during this Michaelmas term – attend the King’s School Canterbury Boat Club where they train in the three games sessions per week.

These training sessions are held at Westbere lakes near the village of Sturry so the enthusiastic and enterprising King’s rowing coaches, under the experienced and inspiring leadership of Jon Williamson Director of Rowing, also offer optional morning and evening sessions on the rowing machines and weights at the Blore’s Recreation Centre. This is particularly helpful for senior boys and girls and for those entering the GB trials process.

Competitions are held on five or six weekends during the term, depending on age groups and weather conditions. Older pupils are selected for specific events such as The Schools’ Head, The National Schools in Nottingham, and The Henley Royal Regatta.

At the recent Hampton Small Boats’ Head in November, twin brothers Ian and Tom Wingfield (6b Mitchinson’s) were runners up in the J17 pairs race, while Tom Wingfield and James Crawley (5th, Grange) came third in the J18 pairs race.
