A Song of Gladness by Michael Morpurgo

Michael Morpurgo’s (OKS) latest work, A Song of Gladness, was written for The Book of Hopes—a project aiming to provide comfort during lockdown and inspire a love of reading among children. His poem tells of a blackbird singing a special story.

It was so appreciated by our Digital Records Officer, Hazel Cornell, and her young son that Hazel created a video of illustrations to accompany the poem which you can see below.

Michael’s charity, Farms for City Children, which does wonderful work with underprivileged youths in the UK is operating in extremely difficult circumstances during the pandemic. Find out more about the organisation on the Morpurgos’ website.
