Athletes complete 24hr relay raising over £2,700 for NHS workers
Seven local runners, including Matt Stonier (Marlowe, 6a), completed a 24-hour relay last weekend and have raised more than £2,700 for the NHS.
The athletes from Invicta East Kent and Ashford AC each did two 1hr 43minute legs, some of which were in the middle of the night, to ensure they covered the whole time period.
In total, they ran 335.8km (208.6 miles), with Matt – currently the English Schools champion and a team GB runner – clocking up 50.9km (31.6 miles). Afterwards he said, “It has resulted in very sore legs, one big blister and a relatively unhappy stomach. I had my dad alongside me on the bike in the early hours, it got pretty cold and was very eerie especially on Canterbury High Street.”
