Biathletes qualify for national Championships in first ever competition

Three Shell pupils have been invited to the British Modern Biathlon Championships in Nottingham after qualifying in their first ever Biathlon.

Jessica Sugden (Carlyon), Harry Thompson (Mitchinson’s) and Arabella Lester (Luxmoore) all achieved the Gold Standard of 2,000 points in the qualifying event at Abingdon School last month, which was also the first ever Modern Biathlon King’s has competed in.

The sport comprises of a non-continuous swim and run, with distances of 100m and 1600m for under-14s and 200m and 1600m for under-15s.

All of the seven pupils who took part put in excellent performances considering how new to the sport they are, and we look forward to attending more competitions in future, starting with the British Championships on November 24.
