Girls Eight visit Durham University before Rutherford Head
Our Boat Club’s Girls Eight raced at the Rutherford Head in Newcastle on Saturday and gained insight into further education from a number of top universities during their three-day trip.
The senior girls arrived on Friday evening at Durham University’s sports complex, where they had a tour and a talk from the Boat Club followed by a session on the Indoor Rowing Tank to get the travelling out of their systems.
On Saturday they then heard talks from Newcastle University and the University of London, who were also competing at the Head, about the UCAS application process and rowing at university.
When the racing got underway, the girls performed exceptionally well in the first proper long Head race, holding good form and coming in a narrow second to local favourites Cambois Rowing Club, with both crews beating a large number of women’s club and university crews.
It was fantastic for the girls to find out more about university life and enjoy a successful weekend on the water!
