Gravelines International Spring Regatta
King’s rowers raced at Gravelines International Regatta in France. There was some very good racing and Tilly Abbott won her race in a windy final, making her the fastest junior and senior woman. Eleanor Nieman raced in the category above her year in her first 2k race and came in a very credible 2nd. The girls’ pair of Minya Kearley and Emily Williamson were the fastest J18 girls’ pair. Wills Edgar raced with a Globe Rowing Club athlete and showed some great promise in the heat and then in the final overtook all junior and senior doubles.
Eleven King’s pupils represented the South East region at the Junior International Regatta in Nottingham. This involved twelve regions racing two heats of six with the fastest six to the A final and the rest to the B final. The performance of the day was from the Fifths: Ed Connor, David Low, Ian Wingfield, Tom Wingfield and coxed by Niamh Carter, who won a bronze medal with the first three boats all within a second of each other. The Removes four: Bear Hastilow, Alex Smith, James Crawley, Will Child-Villiers and coxed by Sacha Tanna, raced very well in their heat to make the A final and then came in 5th in that race. Alex Lapsley got a late call up replacing a rower in a Maidstone Eight through injury and helped that boat make the A final, coming in 6th against some quality opposition.
This was a very encouraging, positive and rewarding weekend to start the summer term and a fantastic start to the term’s rowing, showing the positive impact and progress made on camp.
