Introducing The Malthouse
Drawing inspiration from centuries of drama at the school, King’s is preparing the new Malthouse Theatre for its opening performance in King’s Week. Housed in a Victorian Malthouse on its own 4-acre site next to the King’s Recreation Centre, the Malthouse Theatre seats an audience of 334, with additional standing room. To incorporate the King’s highly-regarded musical heritage, the Malthouse includes an orchestra pit, and state-of-the-art technical rigs for sound and light. Additional studio spaces for dance and drama teaching feature a sprung floor built to a specification set by the Royal Ballet.
The sell-out opening performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” takes place on Saturday 29 June, alongside a multi-feature fundraising campaign, called “Play Your Part”.
Headmaster Peter Roberts comments, “This really is a jewel in the King’s crown”.
