Kent Fire & Rescue stage training exercise at The Malthouse

King’s has been working closely with Kent Fire and Rescue Service in recent weeks to organise an emergency training exercise at The Malthouse which took place on Wednesday evening.

The procedure was part of the Service’s breathing apparatus training schedule and also helped us test our own emergency procedures.

A number of fire appliances and crew were in attendance while staff and pupil volunteers gave up an hour of their time to be part of the theatre audience.

Our photography students also attended to capture shots of the evening, some of which can be found in a gallery here.

Andy Batchelor, station manager of the Kent Fire and Rescue Emergency Planning Team, said: “This exercise has been the culmination of a great deal of hard work from the crews at Canterbury Fire Station and the staff of The King’s School, but none of it would have been possible without the support of the staff and students on the night.

“An exercise like this gives both the school and KFRS the confidence that we have successfully planned to provide a robust response in the very unlikely event that an incident should occur in this new and prestigious venue, and will hopefully set a firm foundation for continued collaboration between us in the future.”
