Like Ducks to Water
Ed Shapcott (6a, Carlyon House) wanted to share his love of sailing with children who might not have tried sailing before. With the help of Peter Jones (Fifth, Galpin’s House) and Ben Helme (6b, Galpin’s House), King’s were pleased to welcome 12 Spires Academy students to come and give sailing a go.
With the support of Laurie Dengate, Head of Sailing at King’s, they took the 12 students out onto the water. It was a huge success with the students from Spires really enjoying themselves, finding a whole range of new skills outside of the classroom and gaining in confidence. They sailed the boats unaided and took to it like ducks to water!
The King’s sailors also enjoyed their day discovering a talent for teaching and loved seeing the enjoyment of the Spires students. King’s are looking forward to inviting some more students from Spires Academy to a similar event soon.
