Mass in Blue – Saturday 5th March, 7:30pm

The King’s School Canterbury look forward to their annual Choral Concert, which takes place on Saturday 5th March at 7:30pm in The School’s Shirley Hall. This year the event is in support of War Child, a charity that protects children in areas of the world affected by war.

The programme features an eclectic mix that first pays homage to English composer George Butterworth, who lost his life one hundred years ago in 1916, at the Battle of Somme; his evocative Shrophire Lad Rhapsody opens the concert. Further orchestral items include Finzi’s ‘Cello Concerto (soloist, pupil George Nairac), and Malcolm Arnold’s light hearted Little Suite for Orchestra. The all British programme is completed in the second half when the King’s Chorus, accompanied by the school big band, featuring a guest professional rhythm section, including pianist David Rees-Williams, take on contemporary composer Will Todd’s Mass in blue, a jazz choral work that has enjoyed enormous popularity across the country with choirs and choral societies.

Tickets are £8 and available from the School Box Office, or on the door.
