Maya appears on Britain’s Got Talent
Music scholar Maya Moh (Mitchinson’s, Vth) appeared on Britain’s Got Talent with the Chineke! Junior Orchestra last Saturday, receiving four yesses to make it through to the next round.
Maya, who is also part of the King’s Chamber and Symphony Orchestras, described it as a really exciting but also nerve-wracking experience. “We were quite scared about what Simon Cowell was going to say, but he was really nice!”
Chineke! is based in London and aims to provide career opportunities to black and minority ethnic classical musicians. Maya is one of many King’s musicians who is developing her skills with a foundation or conservatoire in London, having been with Chineke! for four years, and says her teachers have been extremely supportive in helping her catch up on any work missed.
Along with the rest of the orchestra, Maya now waits to hear when the next stage of the competition will take place, and in the meantime is continuing with her music lessons via Microsoft Teams as part of the King’s Education Online.
