Methods and Madness Day

On Thursday 25th June, Mr Moelwyn-Hughes and Father Robbins of the Politics department organised another incarnation of its ‘Methods and Madness – An Intro to Modern Conflict’ for 6b students starting their A2 Global Politics course.

Col. Whitchurch from the Land Warfare Centre hosted at the Royal School of Military Engineering at Chatham. In the morning the group commandeered the ornate Medal Room at the Royal Engineers Museum and pupils enjoyed a series of lectures and panel discussions on ‘The Utility of Force and the Changing Nature of Conflict and International Relations in the Modern World’.

After lunch they had the unrivalled opportunity of getting some hands on experience of the kit and methods that the modern army use around the world to deal with the different scenarios they meet. This included the chance to operate armoured utility vehicles and high speed assault boats on the Medway River.

A fun and informative day was had by all in the summer sunshine and provided a great platform for the beginning of their A2 studies.
