Results from the Ghent International Regatta
The King’s School Canterbury senior boys and girls raced in Ghent, Belgium on Saturday 9th May 2015 as a precursor to National Schools in two weeks time, with some very pleasing success.
The top boys crew for National Schools is the Four (Harry Nichols, Charles John, Angus Forbes and Thomas Trelawny-Vernon). They opened their account with an encouraging bronze medal in the junior coxless four behind a German crew and a local Club Ghent crew. They were then joined by Rosie Fuest who coxed them in the final of the coxed fours where they dominated winning the gold medal.
The Eight of (Sam Wallace, Harry Best-Shaw, Galvin Brady, Alexander Ardley-Ingram, Frederick Allinson, Kay Cosans, James Molony, Samuel Dath and Sacha Tanna coxing), raced the Mens Eights heats against the likes of Oxford Brooke’s, Leander and Thames, as a rehearsal for the Junior Eights final. A good strategy as after a disappointing row they stepped up a level and raced significantly better earning a bronze medal behind the Belgium juniors and the Club Ghent crew.
The girls, (Helena Barton, Alexandra Abadjieva, Rose Fuest and Jennifer Hofmann) raced a coxless four which despite a less than ideal race, they still came away with a silver. Fuest and Hofmann then raced a lightweight double winning by default. Then in the Women’s Junior pair, Barton and Abadjieva raced really well to clinch a bronze.
