Rowing at Lake Orta

For the sixth year, The Boat Club training camp took place over the Easter holiday at Lake Orta, alongside colleagues and students from Canford School. This year King’s also attended Pescate Regatta, which is a 500-metre sprint regatta on the right leg of Lake Como.

Every pupil left the Regatta with a medal with Gold and Silver medals in the Junior and Senior pairs, and with a victory over Canford in the Eights event. At the presentation, King’s were awarded with a trophy for the fastest crew of the day.

The rest of the camp enjoyed great weather, fantastic water and the usual excellent food from il Bocciolo. Adrian Cassidy, a former Performance Director of Rowing Ireland, gave further coaching insights to both pupils and coaches. The coaches were also invited to an evening with the Lago D’Orta coaches to share ideas and rowing thoughts. On the last morning, King’s had Lago D’Orta rowers join them in some mixed quads.

This was a very successful camp, which was only made possible by the invaluable help, time and support of the King’s rowing staff: Matt Bell, Freya George, James Hounsell and Ryan Hosking.
