Squash: Roehamton Schools’ Invitational
The squash teams are enjoying a successful run. At the end of last term the Boys’ 1st V won the inaugural Surrey Sports Park Invitational Squash Tournament beating Bede’s in the final and Marlborough in the semi- final. At the start of this term the boys also competed in the prestigious Roehampton Public Schools Invitation tournament for the first time and last Sunday had a fantastic day out winning Division 2, which means promotion to Division 1 next year.
The tournament finished as follows: 1st King’s, 2nd Tonbridge, 3rd Radley, 4th Wellington, 5th Winchester, 6th Lord Wandsworth, 7th Dulwich and 8th Colfe’s.
Some fantastic results for which the Boys’ Team are to be commended for their ability to compete in the big league and against serious opponents, and which has seen the players grow immensely in maturity, temperament, outlook and ambition. Great results but still much work to do looking ahead.
Both the Boys’ and Girls’ Teams now have the Jesters fixture to look forward to and also a trip to see the world’s top players fight it out in the PSA Canary Wharf Classic.
Ben Champion deserves special praise for his astute captaincy and for his dedication which has seen him enjoy consistent success at 1st String. He has also made the Kent U19 Team and so too has Alex James at U17 level.
