“Your Future is Interdisciplinary” – Our latest King’s Talk
In our latest King’s Talk this week, we heard from Professor Carl Gombrich, the Co-Founder and Director of Teaching and Learning at The London Interdisciplinary School (LIS).
LIS is one of the newest and most revolutionary universities in the UK, offering a radical undergraduate degree that leans on the sciences, arts and humanities. The World Economic Forum describes it as an “innovative new concept in higher education” which “is taking a new approach to teaching and learning, with a cross-curricular focus on tackling the most important problems facing the world”.
With society changing before our eyes, Carl explored the ways higher education can adapt and change with it. How can universities keep pace with the knowledge revolution and redraw traditional disciplinary boundaries? To address the most complex problems, do we need to equip the next generation to access and leverage knowledge from across the disciplines? How can interdisciplinary education prepare students for the future of work?
He was joined by Louise Augustine-Aina (OKS, Harvey House 2008-13) who is the Student Engagement Officer at LIS. Louise discussed some of her school memories as well as updating us on her journey over the last seven years.
