Other Projects

Partnership projects offer many mutual benefits, enabling our pupils to develop valuable leadership and organisational skills as they contribute to the smooth running of events and enabling them to broaden their own experience and the experiences of other young people.

King’s collaborates with Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) each year to deliver the Minilympics, a day of exciting sporting activities for local primary schools.

180 Year 4 pupils come to Birley’s playing fields and, in teams of mixed schools, are given sessions on cricket (in association with Kent cricket), field testing (led by CCCU’s SportsLab department) and team athletics, as well as a talk on healthy eating and an opportunity to meet Olympic sports stars. King’s pupils and staff volunteer, together with CCCU Outreach Ambassadors.

Each child attending receives a medal and T shirt and trophies are awarded for team spirit. A delicious barbecue lunch is provided and the day is kindly sponsored by local businesses. One parent who attended with his son’s school said “an exciting and engaging day was had by every child. The commitment and organisation were second to none”.

Drama teachers and pupils from local schools join us in our state-of-the-art Malthouse Theatre for a series of masterclasses, engaging in acting activities as well as workshops focusing on artistic performance.

Feedback from a local teacher: Thank you so much for today. The students loved it and got a lot from the workshops. I genuinely think this was the best workshop I have taken students to. Both practitioners were engaging and had great activities for the students. Both gave practical [takeaways] that the students could use and helped the students build confidence. The theatre is stunning, and a fantastic space and the lunch provided was delicious. Great day! Thank you again for the opportunity.

Pupil volunteers from King’s assist with language classes and reading lessons at local primary schools each week.

Our volunteering contingent continues to grow with pupils assisting not only in local schools but also in the wider community: working with charities, taking part in local events, and being a positive presence in the local community.
