Exceptional pastoral care
We take pride in our outstanding pastoral care – the safeguarding and wellbeing of our pupils has always been paramount, and the Senior School is structured to support this.
Each pupil, Boarding or Day, is a member of a House; the centre of their school life, and in many cases a home from home. Each House is under the watchful care of a Housemaster or Housemistress and includes a Matron or Pastoral Care Assistant and a dedicated Tutor Team. All academic staff are attached to a certain House as tutors, and each tutor group consists of approximately 10 pupils. This system has been in place since 1886 and it creates very strong bonds between tutors and pupils.
We also have a well-equipped health centre, staffed by fully qualified nurses providing 24-hour care during term, as well as a team of qualified counsellors and a Life Coach. Our Chaplaincy team – responsible for worship, assemblies and Cathedral services – are also available to both staff and pupils as advisors and counsellors.
In general pupils feel nourished and supported by a school culture that is open, warm and inclusive, and all are encouraged to support each other; to celebrate the success of everyone, as well as their own.
