Our sailors visited the Dover Maritime and Coastguard Agency at Langdon Battery Saturday afternoon.

Pupils had a guided tour of the site by RCCM Neal Gibson, who walked us through all the responsibilities of the Maritime Coastguard Agency in the waters around the UK. This included all search and rescue coordination on land sea and air. Pupils had the opportunity to ask questions and visit the two operations rooms viewing all vessels on screen currently passing through the straits of Dover, on average 500 a day!

Pupils also met two members of the coastguard search and rescue team, with an overview of equipment needed to rescue casualties at the bottom of a cliff, stuck in quick sand or at sea. This was a thoroughly enjoyable and insightful visit.
